The Vals

The movie, THE VALS (1986) aka VALLEY GIRLS (not to be confused with the Nichos Cage version)was filmed in Stockton in both September & October of 1982. In fact, The scene in Weberstown Mall Was filmed on October 4, 1982. Over 27 years ago. Sometime this week, I will have site comparisons between the movie and the actual filmed sites. Lots has changed!

Vintage 1966 Weberstown Mall Ad

Here Is A Vintage Ad For WEBERSTOWN MALL Which I Found In The Back Of The 1966 A.A. STAGG SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK. The Picture Was Taken The Same Year When Weberstown Mall Opened In 1966. This Picture Was Taken In The Center Of The Mall Looking Northeast. You Can See SEE'S CANDIES, KAY'S JEWELERS & LERNERS SHOP. Today, See's Is In The same Location Albeit Remodeled. Lerners Is No More While Kay's Closed Its Doors Sometime In The 1970's But Returned A Few Years Ago Where GRANAT BROTHERS JEWELERS (And Later DEVON'S JEWELERS) Was Located At The Northwest Corner. Also In This Picture You Can See The Center Fountain Which Had Psychedelic Lights Pointed At The Water. The Fountain Was Removed Around 1982.

Before & After: 1060 North Wilson Way

Above is S-Mart Foods taken about 10 years ago and its replacement, the Grocery Outlet was taken last year. This building was built and opened in 1973 originally as ALBERTSON'S MARKET, it was replaced by FOOD BANK in 1982 (owned by the SAVE MART SUPERMARKET of MODESTO chain, not to be confused with the locally owned SAVE-MART which as a store down the street at 1530 WATERLOO ROAD.) then they were renamed SMART FOODS in 1991 then S-MART FOODS in 1996.
